ADIN Chemical Feed Systems

AdIN-Chem-Feed-2010With certain water parameters, an essential aspect of effective treatment is adequate pretreatment of the raw water before reaching the primary treatment system and or post treatment for applications such as potable water. This is a guiding principle behind our integrated treatment solutions.

pH Adjustment Using Sodium Hydroxide

The ADIN Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) pH adjustment module is designed to increase the pH of the source water through the injection of a 50% solution of NaOH. A simple peristaltic pump delivers the appropriate solution strength through an injection point upstream of the treatment system. The appropriate dosing calculations will be provided by AdEdge and based on the source water chemistry and flow rate. The NaOH feed pump can be controlled through a switched outlet so that the chemical feed pump will be energized when the well pump is initiated. If the chemical feed pump needs to be controlled based on a variable flow rate a PCM and flow meter combination can be used to regulate the injection of the NaOH. Either method of control will consistently introduce NaOH into the water source to maintain a more optimized pH.

pH Adjustment Using Hydrochloric Acid

An option to decrease a waters pH is the utilization of hydrochloric acid (HCL). If there is a lower flow rate and less automation required for pH control then, AdEdge’s HCL pH adjustment module can be a viable option. The HCL pH adjustment module is designed to decrease the pH of the source water through the injection of a 36% solution of HCL. Just as with other chemical feed modules, a simple peristaltic pump delivers the appropriate solution strength through an injection point upstream of the treatment system. AdEdge will provide the proper dosing calculations based on the water chemistry and maximum flow rates of the well or demand. The chemical feed pump can be controlled through a switched outlet so that the chemical feed pump will be energized when the well pump is initiated or through a PCM and flow meter combination if the chemical feed is required to be controlled by the flow rate.

Chlorination

Liquid Sodium Hypochlorite is commonly used throughout the water treatment industry and has been time tested to be the most cost effective choice for distribution disinfection, used in 98% of municipal treatment facilities for deactivation of common microorganisms. Chlorine is also the preferred choice for oxidation within a treatment scheme, used primarily in a co-precipitation treatment process, where iron, arsenic and manganese are present.

Iron Augmentation

Ferric Chloride (FeCl3) is a widely used iron salt in the water and wastewater treatment industry primarily as a coagulant or flocculent. When introduced into a treatment process, ferric chloride assists in the coagulation of various contaminants found in water supplies but is mainly used for the co-precipitation of Arsenic and Iron. Since iron and arsenic are naturally attracted to each other, the addition of ferric chloride is an ideal approach for arsenic removal, usually resulting in lower capital and operating costs over alternative technologies.
